(First published in the May 10, 2006 issue of The Guillotine Newsmagazine.)

The 2006 edition of The Guillotine Academic All-State honorees features 30 first team members, 30 second team members, and 61 honorable mention wrestlers.

Wrestlers were submitted on nomination forms signed by their coach and principal verifying their current GPA (minimum 3.0), number of current season varsity matches wrestled (min. 15), current season win percentage (min. 60%) and grade (junior or senior).

Points were tallied according to current varsity wins, current state tournament placement and cumulative high school GPA. Each of the first team wrestlers receive two certificates and a letter of recognition.

This year’s top Academic All-State wrestler spot goes to senior Matt Leither of Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City. Matt capped his high school career with the Class A 189-pound state title and a perfect 4.00 GPA. Matt scored a 538 out of a possible 549 on his All-State Wrestler nomination.
