Top wrestlers in their schools for academics with 4.00 GPA's are Oyster, Hanson, Logan Brincefield of Wadena-Deer Creek, Jamie Wagner of Nicollet, Jared Evans of Blue Earth Area and Jeremy Anderson of Thief River Falls.

Twelve State Champions finished in the Top 30; Pfaffinger (4X), Eric Sanders (4X), Bullerman (2X), Evans (2X), and Ryan King (2X) have won multiple State titles. First time titlists this year are Oyster, Hanson, Bullerman, Laws, Dustin Dahlblom of Stillwater, Jason Rhoten of Kasson-Mantorville and Marty Engen of Paynesville.

Nine wrestlers repeated as First Team All-Academic; Bullerman, Brincefield, Rhoten, King, Fier, Evans, Shane Tappe of Detroit Lakes, Leland Brincefield of Wadena-Deer Creek and Pfaffinger.

Three 2001 Academic 2nd team wrestlers moved up to the 1st team; Troy Stehr of Goodhue, Lance Bullerman of Adrian and Craig Cihlar of Minnewaska.

Seventeen seniors and thirteen juniors made the team. Wadena-Deer Creek placed three of their five wrestlers nominated on the first team. Adrian, Blue Earth Area and Goodhue each have two. Blue Earth Area, Minnewaska and Southland each nominated six wrestlers for these honors with Goodhue and Wadena-Deer Creek each having five and Minneota four.

Of the teams with six entries, Minnewaska scores the highest GPA with 3.75 overall and Blue Earth Area, for the second year in a row, has the best win percentage, 84.67 and the most overall points, 2691. The Brincefield twins are repeat first team winners. There is a total of 97 nominations from 50 different schools. There are 57 seniors and 40 juniors.

This is the 22nd year that The Guillotine has recognized Minnesota High School wrestlers for their academic and wrestling excellence. The first year was in 1979 and has been consecutively published since 1982. We would like to encourage coaches to continue to nominate your deserving wrestlers for this honor. The number of nominations have consistently been near the 100 mark. I believe that we could surpass that since we usually get nominations from less than half of the number of schools that have wrestling programs. We hope you will consider sending in nominations in the future if you do not now do so.

Congratulations to all our nominees and thank you coaches, wrestlers and parents for making this recognition special. We hope you enjoy getting to know more about our top student/athletes in Minnesota.
